fundamental art

(c.1960)

E de WILDE coined this phrase to describe abstract paintings by a group of American and European artists.

Characterized by some critics as post-conceptual art, its concentration on procedure and the physical nature of materials brings it close to minimalism; emphasizing the means rather than the result.
